Lu Zhishen is a prominent character in the classic Chinese novel *Water Margin*, one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. He first appears in the early chapters of the book as a military officer named Lu Da.

Initially stationed in Wei Prefecture, Lu Da is known for his immense strength and hot temper. He earns the epithet "Flowery Monk" after becoming a monk at Mount Wutai to escape justice after killing a local bully. His monastic name, Zhishen, translates to "Profound Wisdom," a stark contrast to his impulsive nature.

Despite his attempts at a peaceful life in the monastery, Lu Zhishen's boisterous behavior leads to trouble. He is eventually forced to leave and joins the outlaw band at Liangshan, where he becomes one of the most formidable warrior monks. Lu Zhishen is celebrated for his loyalty, bravery, and unwavering commitment to fighting injustice.
